2024 SALZBURG LANDESKLINIKEN

A commission by Salzburg Landeskliniken to paint a 52 meter long wall. I suggested doing a design workshop together with the young patients of the hospital. Visual representation of sound was the theme. We watched a selection of early animations based on sound by Norman Mclaren, Len Lye and others. We studied abstract musical scores by Brian Eno , John Cage and others. The young patients drew their own musical scores which were then performed by guitarist Martin Koller who taught us about different ways to alter sound with guitar pedals.

Theo Deutinger gave a presentation about visual traffic where he discussed data representation of sound and traffic in the form of infographics. The students then made collages with transparent sheets which we pasted in a 3d model. The hospital was looking for a design with lots of color. The result is a composition of flowing colors that reflect the eb en flow of the sounds of traffic in the busy Lindhofstraße.

I put together a team of artists to help me paint the mural. We travelled to Salzburg and spent the first week working in pouring rain until the sun finally came out so we could complete the mural.
